LUCENA CITY – Only two new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases were recorded in Quezon province on Saturday, the lowest daily tally since the pandemic broke out in March.
In its 5 p.m. bulletin on December 26, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) disclosed that the two latest cases are from the town of Pagbilao and this city.
The IPHO report also revealed the continuous decline of active COVID-19 cases in the province that now drops to 391.
From 1,119 active cases on Nov. 12, it fell to 760 by the end of November.
The death toll jumped to 181 with the deaths of three patients from Lucena City, Pagbilao and San Antonio towns.
The number of active virus carriers in Lucena City, the provincial capital, is also showing a similar decline in its daily tally.
As of Saturday, the city now has only 48 active virus carriers, a significant decline from 147 active cases on December 1, according to the tally by the Lucena Public Information Office.
The highest tally of active cases in the city was 279 on Oct. 21.
Since December 7, the barangay community task force (BCTF) has been conducting regular patrols in the city’s 33 villages to arrest violators of a city ordinance requiring the wearing of face masks and distancing of at least 1 meter.
Still, under the modified general community quarantine, Quezon logged a total of 6,116 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic erupted in early March.
The province recorded total recoveries of 5,503.
At least 12 of the 41 municipalities in Quezon province no longer have any active COVID-19 cases.
Those previously infected in the localities have either recovered or died, the report said.
