Vico assures cash aid for Pasig City scholars by January

MANILA, Philippines — Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto on Saturday vowed that cash aid for scholars in the city will be out by January next year.

The mayor explained that they only released three months worth of financial assistance this year because of budget technicalities.

“Three months muna na disburse. Sinubukan natin na 5 months kaso may teknikalidad sa budget,” he said.

(We’re disbursing 3-months first. We tried for 5 months but we have a technicality with our budget.)

“Di natin magawan ng paraan para i-release ang Jan-Feb 2021 allowance habang fiscal year 2020 pa lang.. will release as soon as possible this January. Ilan araw na lang naman,”

(We cannot find a way to release the Jan-Feb 2021 allowance while the fiscal year is 2020.. will release as soon as possible this January, which is already coming in a few days.)

Sotto also noted that the cash aid will be sent through the virtual wallet app Paymaya to use contactless payment during the coronavirus disease pandemic.

He reminded scholars to inform the Pasig City Scholarship office if they have changed their phone numbers.

Sotto previously said they recorded 18,000 Pasig City scholars this year.

The city government also expanded its scholarship program to 3,000 indigent private school students this year. — Zac Sarao, Trainee
