MANILA, Philippines — Suspected shabu, or crystal meth, with a street value of P1.8 million were intercepted by authorities from two suspects who claimed to be from a religious organization delivering goods to inmates at the Davao City Jail on Friday.

Sachets of the illegal drug was stashed inside packets of instant noodles when suspects Doroteo Guibernas, 63, and Mylene Tamondong, 34, allegedly tried to brazenly traffic them inside the jail in President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown.

In the report, the Bureau of Jail and Penology (BJMP) Region IX said the two suspects were about to deliver the instant noodles to inmates when Jail Officer 1 Honey Queen Sedon and Jail Officer 1 Philip Beer Chagas suspected that the packets were “tampered.”

This prompted the jail guards to check the noodle packets, where they found the meth worth P1,800,000.

The confiscated drugs were turned over to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory for examination while the suspects are under custody of Talomo, Davao police, said. — Zac Sarao, trainee
