MANILA, Philippines —A magnitude 5.3 earthquake rattled Davao Occidental and some areas in Soccsksargen region on Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Based on the initial earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor originated 95 kilometers (kms) southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental at 10 a.m.
State seismologists said it was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 111 kms.
The quake was felt as Intensity II in Alabel, Sarangani and Intensity I in Kiamba, Sarangani, Koronadal City, and General Santos City.
State seismologists warned that aftershocks are expected from the earthquake.
Earlier, a magnitude 6.3 quake also shook several Luzon areas on Christmas morning.
