MANILA, Philippines — The new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infected 1,776 more people nationwide, increasing the sum of cases to 465,724.
Data from the Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday also showed 26,179 active cases, which is an increase of almost 2,000 cases, compared with 24,984 active cases recorded on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the severe respiratory disease killed 9,055 people in the Philippines. This includes seven new fatalities.
Also, 533 more patients survived COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 430,490.
DOH also reported that Quezon City had the highest number of new virus cases nationwide. The largest city in Metro Manila documented 128 additional cases of the respiratory disease.
This was followed by Davao City with 121 new cases, Rizal with 94, Samar with 57 and Bulacan with 56.
Nineteen duplicated cases were removed, prompting the health department to revise its COVID-19 case tally. Of the number, 15 recovered cases were deleted.
Moreover, DOH said 37 coronavirus disease cases turned out to be negative cases, which were also removed from the country’s caseload. [ac]
