Rebel wanted for murder killed in shootout with cops in Masbate City

LEGAZPI CITY –– An alleged member of the New People’s Army was killed in a shootout with police in Masbate City on Wednesday night.

Masbate police said Arjan Torres, 29, shot police officers who were serving him his arrest warrants in Barangay Pawa of the city around 10 p.m. The police officers retaliated and killed Torres, while his cohort escaped.

Torres was facing charges of murder and attempted murder for his involvement in the killings and bombing incidents in the city, the report said.

The police said they recovered a caliber-.45 pistol and a suspected improvised explosive device from his sling bag.
