TACLOBAN CITY –– An alleged rebel leader was killed in a firefight between government forces and members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in San Isidro town, Northern Samar province on Monday, Dec. 21.

The report of the 802nd Infantry Brigade based in Catarman, Northern Samar said the slain rebel was “Ka Apple,” the secretary of the front committee-2 of the sub-regional committee of the regional communist party.

Soldiers of the 43rd Infantry Battalion, whose headquarter is based in Lope de Vega, also in Northern Samar, had a 30-minute gun battle with at least 60 NPA rebels in Barangay Happy Valley.

The rebels scampered to different directions after the firefight, leaving behind the body of Ka Apple.
