Cop in fatal Tarlac shooting tests negative for drugs; IBP-Tarlac slams killing

TARLAC CITY –– The suspect in the killing of a woman and her son in Paniqui, Tarlac has tested negative for drugs, police said on Tuesday.

Col. Renante Cabico, Tarlac provincial director, said Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca remained in the custody of the Paniqui municipal station.

“Okay naman sya. Nabigla lang din daw siya kaya niya nagawa iyon. Makita mo naman na may pagsisisi siya” Cabico told the Inquirer.

Nuezca has been indicted for double murder charges for the killing of Sonya Rufino Gregorio, 52, and Frank Anthony Rufino Gregorio, 25.

Cabico said Nuezca declined to undergo a paraffin test, invoking his rights.

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)-Tarlac condemned the crime and urged the Philippine National Police to protect the citizens who help gather evidence and stand as witnesses in resolving crimes.

“We cry in disbelief that this happened in our home province. As Tarlaquenos and as lawyers, we cannot remain unaffected not only is this a violation of human rights but also an affront on our justice system,” IBP-Tarlac said in a statement.

It added: “This is heinous and the one responsible should be held accountable, tried in court in an expeditious manner, and suffer the penalty he truly deserves.”
