Toledo LGU to start search, rescue in collapsed mining pit

CEBU CITY—The Toledo City government is preparing for a search and rescue operation at a collapsed mining site of Carmen Copper Corp. (CCC).

John Roseller Layan, city information officer, said rescue workers would begin early on Tuesday (Dec. 22) the search for workers who are still missing. The site, Layan said, remained “unstable and dangerous.”

Layan, however, could not yet say how many persons were missing.

In a statement, the mining company attributed the landslide to relentless rains.

“The management of CCC is doing all necessary action to assess and address the overall situation,” it said.

“We will continue to inform the concerned agencies as well as the general public of further developments,” the company added.

Local radio station dyLA reported that at least six persons were missing after the landslide.
