Revilla raises reinstitution of death penalty after Tarlac shooting

MANILA, Philippines — After the gruesome shooting incident in Paniqui, Tarlac, Senator Bong Revilla on Monday called for the revival of capital punishment.

“This is one compelling case for the reinstitution of the death penalty,” Revilla said, reacting to the incident in Tarlac where Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca fatally shot a mother and her son in front of his own daughter.

The senator added that Nuezca must be punished to the fullest under the law aside from being removed from the police service.

He also urged the Philippine National Police (PNP) and National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) to evaluate every cop who defended Nuecza on social media.

“Pati itong mga pulis na nagtanggol pa kay Nuezca, na isa-isa rin namang nagbura ng kanilang mga post matapos mapuna, dapat imbestigahan din ng PNP at NAPOLCOM,” urged Revilla.

(Even these policemen who defended Nuezca, who then deleted their posts one by one after being criticized, should also be investigated by the PNP and NAPOLCOM.)

“Dapat lahat ng ‘yan i-evaluate ulit at ipa-neuro,” he added.

(They should all be evaluated and be required to go through a neurological exam.)

The nation’s police force should review its standards and explain how Nuezca remained in service despite multiple administrative cases, Revilla pointed out.

“The PNP should review its standards. Hindi dapat hinahayaan ang mga bulok sa organisasyon dahil nadadamay lahat. Kung pababayaan nila ang mga bugok, makakahawa pa ‘yan at ayan, nakikita na natin ang resulta,” Revilla said.
(The PNP should review its standards. The rotten ones in the organization should not be allowed because everyone is affected. If they neglect the rotten ones, it will be contagious and there, we can already see its results.)
