Toledo mining firm confirms landslide in one of its pits

The mining firm Carmen Copper Corp. (CCC) based in Toledo City has confirmed a landslide in its Carmen Pit last Monday (Dec. 21).

“The incident was traceable to the incessant rains for the past several months and aggravated by Tropical Depression Vicky which hit parts of the Visayas, including Toledo City last Friday, December 18, 2020,” CCC said in a statement sent to INQUIRER.net.

“The management of CCC is doing all the necessary action to assess and address the situation,” the statement said.

“We will continue to inform the concerned agencies as well as the general public of further developments,” it added.

Toledo’s public information office said a rescue operation is ongoing.

In a phone interview, John Roseller Layan, Toledo information officer, said Mayor Marjorie Perales has called for an emergency meeting with city officials.
