IATF to make quarantine status proposals to Duterte after Christmas

MANILA, Philippines — The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) will submit its proposal to President Duterte regarding the quarantine classifications of different areas in the country for the month of January 2021 after Christmas, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said Sunday.

Nograles, co-chair of the IATF, said this as he branded as “fake news” the rumors that Metro Manila will revert to the stricter modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in light of the holiday season.

“After Christmas, magmi-meeting kami tapos before sumapit siguro ang Enero, siguro by December 31, may desisyon na ang Pangulo para sa Enero. Ganun po yun, month by month na kami,” Nograles said in an interview over dzBB.

Metro Manila is under general community quarantine (GCQ) until December 31.

A memorandum supposedly issued by the Philippine National Police (PNP) stating that MECQ will be implemented in Metro Manila starting Dec. 19 has been making its round on social media.

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, as well as ITAF spokesman Harry Roque, earlier called the information as “fake news.”
