2 seniors perish in Leyte landslide

TACLOBAN CITY – Two senior citizens died when a landslide struck their residence amid heavy rainfall in Cuatro de Agosto, Mahaplag, Leyte early Saturday morning.

Evelina Larano, 67, and Junilanda Milano, 62 were asleep inside their homes when landslide happened at around 4 a.m.

The bodies of the victims were retrieved by rescue teams from mounds of debris and rocks two hours later.

Mahaplag Mayor Daisy Lleve said the landslide was triggered by the heavy downpour spawned by Tropical Depression Vicky.

A 14-year-old boy and another reisdent,  Godofredo Larano, Jr. sustained injuries due to the incident.

The area where the landslide happened was part of a national road which was rendered impassable.
