12 Quezon towns now coronavirus-free as province sees decline in cases

LUCENA CITY—At least 12 of the 41 municipalities in Quezon province have been rid of COVID-19 cases as infection numbers continued to decline, according to authorities on Friday (Dec. 18).

In its 5 p.m. report on Dec. 18, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) said these towns are now free of COVID-19:

  • Jomalig
  • Panukulan
  • Patnanungan
  • General Luna
  • San Andres
  • San Narciso
  • Pitogo
  • Macalelon
  • Mulanay
  • Agdangan
  • General Nakar
  • San Francisco

Those previously infected in these municipalities have either recovered or died, the report said.

Quezon, which is now on modified general community quarantine, has been seeing a continued decline of COVID-19 cases that dropped to 511 on Friday afternoon.

The province’s highest tally was 1,119 on Nov. 12. It fell to 760 by the end of November.

Lucena City, the provincial capital, now has only 84 cases. The highest tally in the city was 279 on Oct. 21. It fell to 147 on Nov. 30.

Quezon logged a total of 5,988 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic erupted in early March but at least 5,300 were recoveries.

The death toll from COVID-19 in Quezon rose to 177 with the death of a patient in Mauban town on Wednesday (Dec. 16).

Health office records showed that at least 384 persons suspected of infection are confined in hospitals. At least 367 are on home quarantine as of Friday.
