2,122 new COVID-19 cases push PH’s total tally to 456,562
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines recorded on Friday 2,122 additional coronavirus infections, the highest single-day increase in nearly three weeks.
With the new cases, the country now has a total of 456,562 COVID-19 cases nationwide, the Department of Health (DOH) reported.
The last time the country recorded over 2,000 additional cases was last Nov. 29, with 2,122 infections.
According to the DOH’s daily case bulletin, Quezon City recorded the highest increase in cases with 160, followed by Rizal with 105, Bulacan with 91, Makati City with 83, and Davao City with 79.
A new batch of 778 recoveries was also recorded, bringing the total to 420,666. Meanwhile, 25 have been added to the COVID-19 death toll, which is now at 8,875.
Only 27,021 or 5.9% of the total cases were active cases or those still recovering from the respiratory disease.

The count does not include the latest data from four testing laboratories that failed to submit their reports on time, the DOH said. [ac]
