COVID-19 bed capacity: 6 of 139 NCR hospitals under critical level

Data lifted from ncovtracker.doh.gov.ph shows the COVID-19 bed capacity of Metro Manila hospitals, as of Dec. 9, 2020.

MANILA, Philippines — Six out of 139 hospitals in Metro Manila were placed  under critical level in terms of bed capacity solely for COVID-19 patients, based on data from Department of Health (DOH) as of December 10. 

 Of the hospitals under “critical” level, only the Philippine Children’s Medical Center reached 100 percent bed occupancy.

 The DOH classifies occupancy levels for COVID-19 beds in health centers as either critical, high risk, moderate and safe. 

FEATURED STORIES

 Under the critical level, hospitals have already reached more than 85 percent of its bed occupancy for COVID-19 patients. 

 Hospitals are classified as high risk if 70 percent but not more than 85 percent of its COVID-19 beds are occupied.

 Hospitals with a COVID-19 bed capacity of from 60 to 70 percent rate for are classified as moderate.

 And hospitals fall under the “safe” level if bed utilization rate is less than 60 percent.

 The bed occupancy rate for the whole of Metro Manila remains at the “safe” zone with 36.8 percent, or 2,542 out of the 6,906 total beds occupied.  

 INQUIRER.net analyzed the most available data, which is on Dec. 10, 2020, based on the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker.

 The article aims to show how prepared Metro Manila hospitals are if there is a sudden surge in COVID-19 infections.

Only hospitals in Metro Manila, however, that have data on COVID-19 beds allocated for the treatment of coronavirus patients were included in this article.
