MANILA, Philippines — Despite AstraZeneca’s pullout from the country’s clinical trials, the Philippines may consider negotiating for the possible COVID-19 vaccine made by the British drugmaker and Russia’s Gamaleya Institute, an official of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said Friday.
This after DOST Undersecretary Rowena Cristina Guevarra disclosed that AstraZeneca officially withdrew from the local clinical trials in the country.
“I think both of them [AstraZeneca and Russia’s Gamaleya Institute] are on our list. If, for example, they come up with stronger vaccines, maybe if the clinical trials are acceptable and the results are very good, then FDA [Food and Drug Administration] will just have to review it and consider it,” said Guevarra in an online press conference led by the Department of Health.
Days ago, AstraZeneca bared that it would soon explore with Gamaleya, which produced Sputnik V, to boost its vaccine.
