Woman out on bail for possession of P40M in meth shot, killed in Tagbilaran

TAGBILARAN CITY—A woman arrested previously for possession of P40 million in meth, or shabu, was shot and killed by motorcycle-riding men here on Tuesday (Dec. 15).

Jenelyn Matura, 37, a resident of Dauis town, was driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV) owned by former Alburquerque Mayor Elpren Charles Tungol around 5 p.m. on Tuesday when the gunmen on a motorcycle blocked the vehicle and shot her.

Matura, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was rushed to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Tungol, who owned the SUV, and Rey Duron, a passenger, suffered minor wounds from broken glass.

Forensics examiners found 9 mm bullet shells.

Investigators said it was Tungol who usually drove the SUV but asked Matura to drive because he was suffering from arthritis.

Matura had been arrested in a buy-bust operation last May and caught with P40 million in meth.

She was allowed to post bail after she was described as a mere accomplice of a bigger drug dealer.
