TACLOBAN CITY—A soldier was killed in an ambush by communist guerrillas in the town of Matuguinao, Samar province on Tuesday (Dec. 15).

Pfc Ronel Manusa was killed and three other soldiers were wounded when New People’s Army guerrillas ambushed them as they were fetching water in a river, said Lt. Jasper Justito Pecson, commanding officer of the 19th Infantry Battalion.

Pecson said his men were at the village of Carolina in Matuguinao for a community support program when they were attacked by guerrillas.
