MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Debold Sinas on Wednesday directed police unit commanders to remain vigilant during the holidays despite an orderly holding of the first Simbang Gabi for this year.

“PNP Units commanders were instructed to maintain vigilance and readiness to respond to situations throughout the Holiday Season,” Sinas said in a statement.

Citing reports from the PNP Command Center, Sinas said all police regional offices nationwide “reported no significant incidents” during the dawn masses.

“Everything went well on Day 1, we expect it to be better on Day 2, and perhaps even perfectly best in the rest of the nine days until Christmas and through the New Year,” the nation’s top cop said.

Sinas also noted that church officials and local government units implemented local ordinances and church policy of physical distancing as well as the 30 percent maximum capacity inside churches.
