1,000-pound vintage bomb retrieved near river in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY –– Police and villagers retrieved a vintage bomb weighing 1,000 pounds along a riverbank in Peñablanca, Cagayan on Monday.

The vintage bomb, said to be a general-purpose type, was immediately turned over to the regional explosive ordnance disposal and canine unit police, according to Brig. Gen. Crizaldo Nieves, Cagayan Valley regional police director.

Villagers discovered the buried bomb near the Pinacanauan River in Barangay Callao while gathering driftwood on Sunday.

Nieves cautioned villagers from using electrical gadgets along the river as unexploded bombs still pose danger.
