MANILA, Philippines—A magnitude 6.2 earthquake shook a large swath of Mindanao Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injury following the quake that struck at 7:21 a.m. and centered 86 kilometers southeast of Sarangani.
Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin and occurred at a shallow depth of 16 km.
The agency initially placed its magnitude at 6.1.
Phivolcs chief Renato Solidum said there was no threat of a tsunami.
The quake was felt at Intensity V in General Santos City, South Cotabato; and Intensity IV in Kiamba, Alabel, Maasim, Glan, Malungon and Malapatan Saranggani; Lebak, Sultan Kudarat; Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao; Koronadal City, Polomolok, Tampakan and Tupi, South Cotabato.
The tremor was also reported as Intensity III in Maitum, Sarangani; Cotabato City, Maguindanao; Davao City; Kidapawan City, North Cotabato; Tantangan and Santo Nino, South Cotabato; and Intensity II in Columbio, Sultan Kudarat; Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat; Magpet, North Cotabato.
It was recorded as Intensity I in Zamboanga City.
