Detained activist asks SC to overturn CA decision

/ 04:47 AM December 16, 2020

Political detainee Reina Mae Nasino on Tuesday petitioned the Supreme Court (SC) to overturn the decision of the Court of Appeals (CA) that junked her plea challenging a lower court’s order to separate her from her newborn baby. In a certiorari petition, Nasino said the death of her infant daughter due to complications two months after they were separated in August should not preclude the appellate court from ruling on her case contesting the July 20 order of Judge Marivic Balisi-Umali of Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 20. “Petitioner is pursuing this action not just to attain justice for the untimely loss of her 3-month-old daughter … but also to vindicate the rights of other [detainees],” Nasino said.—Marlon Ramos
