Maria Ressa did not enter plea in second cyber libel case
MANILA, Philippines — Rappler CEO Maria Ressa did not enter a plea to the conditional arraignment for her second cyber libel case filed against her by businessman Wilfredo Keng.
The second cyber libel case was about Ressa’s tweet on a screenshot of an article from another online news website. Ressa’s tweet of the screenshot was done on the same day that the online news site took down the story.
Because of Ressa refused to enter a plea, the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 147 has entered a not guilty plea on her behalf.
Ressa was conditionally arraigned for the court to acquire jurisdiction over her and act on her motion to travel abroad.
The Rappler chief is asking the court to allow her to travel to the United States for the holidays to visit her parents. Her motion has been granted.
However, she still need to secure permission from other courts where she has pending cases.
