MANILA, Philippines — The government has allowed provincial buses in point-to-point routes to resume operations in a bid to further pump life into the COVID-19 pandemic-hit economy.

According to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, President Rodrigo Duterte and his Cabinet approved the resumption of provincial bus operations in point-to-point routes during a meeting on Monday night.

Only those point-to-point routes approved by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the local government unit, as well as their stop-over/transit terminals will be allowed to operate, Roque said.

“Hintayin lang po natin ang guidelines na ilalabas ng DOTr (Department of Transportation) at LTFRB ukol dito,” Roque said.

(Let’s wait for the release of guidelines from DOTr and LTFRB regarding this.)

Public transportation has gradually reopened nationwide since the government enforced strict coronavirus lockdown measures in mid-March.
