Police: Guards ‘steal’ scrap metals
TWO security guards of a shipping company were arrested for allegedly stealing scrap irons from their employer.
Sonel Batiancila, 23, and Abel Gorgonio, 47, of Golden Sun Security Agency will be charged with qualified theft today.
Chief Insp. Anthony Bastes of Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) of Mandaue City Police Office said Nelson Yu, 58, liaison officer of Ocean Marine Transport, asked for help from their office last Thursday after a series of scrap iron thefts in their ships.
“They said this has been their problem for a long time now,” Bastes told CDN in Cebuano.
Bastes said they caught the two security guards in the act of bringing the scrap irons with them last Saturday morning at the North Reclamation Area, Mandaue City, during their operation.
But in an interview, the guards denied the allegations.

Bastes advised company owners to do a background check on the guards before they hire them and give them right compensation to avoid such crimes.FE marie dumaboc
