TACLOBAN CITY –– Four more individuals in Eastern Visayas succumbed to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), bringing the death toll in the region to 107.
The Department of Health (DOH) said three of the new fatalities died on Dec. 12, while the other one passed away last Dec. 10.
On Dec. 12, the province of Northern Samar logged two new deaths involving two men––a 67-year-old from San Roque town and a 58-year-old from San Vicente town.
The province currently has 18 recorded deaths due to COVID-19 complications.
Ormoc City in Leyte, on the other hand, had two new deaths involving a 78-year-old woman and a 62-year-old man.
In his message, Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez appealed to the people to strictly observe all the health protocols like wearing of face mask and shield as well as practicing physical distancing.
Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, for his part, dismissed rumors that the city would be placed under lockdown on Christmas Day.
“The city of Tacloban will not be on a lockdown this December. We will just be more strict in our protocols, (especially) on the returning residents,” Romualdez said in his video message released by the Tacloban City Information Office on Monday afternoon.
The city now has 1,146 COVID-19 cases with 17 deaths.
“Let’s just be careful. Let’s exercise social distancing and wear a mask,” said Romualdez, who recently acquired the virus.
As of Monday, Eastern Visayas has 9,506 COVID-19 cases.
