Consolacion burglary
A wife of a police official allegedly lost P218,300 worth of cash and valuables to burglars in her house in El Monte Verde de Cebu Subdivision, Cincinnatti Street, barangay Lamac, Consolacion, northern Cebu, early dawn yesterday.
Cebu Daily News is witholding the name of the victim for security purposes.
The 44-year-old woman told police that she discovered her Canon DSLR camera worth P70,000 and shoulder bag containing $3,000 (P133,300), P15,000 cash, ATM cards, driver’s license and IDs were gone when she was about to leave the house around 10 a.m.
Police said the woman left the sliding glass door of her bedroom’s veranda open last Sunday night but there was no sign of forced entry.
Police said the couple is living with their son and two helpers.
Police said they will review the closed-circuit television cameras installed in the house to shed light on the incident. CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
Car shop theft
ALMOST P24,000 cash in a car display center in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City, was lost to thieves last Sunday.
Wilfredo Lumapas, Hyundai Cebu Inc. building administrator, reported the incident to police.
Initial police investigation revealed that security guard Erwin Puzon of Kalahari Security Agency discovered the glass door at the 4th floor of the building forcibly opened around 5 a.m. when he was about to go to the toilet.
Lumapas then reported the broken door to accounting in charge Ma. Cristina Marabi and found out that the P23,904.55 cash was missing in the steel cabinet.
The burglars also tried to open the adjacent office by destroying the glass door lock but failed.CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
Holdup in Lapu
A 59-year old taxi driver was allegedly robbed at gunpoint by his three passengers in barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, Sunday evening.
Simeon Garbo, who was driving a Holiday taxi, was rescued by a passerby and reported the incident to police.
Police investigation revealed that the victim was flagged down by three men in barangay Pusok and asked to bring them to barangay Marigondon.
The victim said the passengers declared a holdup upon reaching Vista Mar Subdivision in barangay Mactan. One man poked a gun at him while another took from his wallet his day’s income of P2,500 and IDs, mobile phone worth P800 and polo shirt.
The suspects then tied his hands at the back, hogtied his feet and strapped a jacket around his mouth. One of the suspects drove his taxi and kicked him out in a dark area.
The suspects then sped off with the taxi.
Garbo untied the plastic straw in his feet and sought help from passersby, who accompanied him to the police.
Police recovered the taxi after a barangay tanod of barangay Basak reported an abandoned taxi parked in front of MED pharmacy in Basak. CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
