Manila cop tests positive for ‘shabu’ use

MANILA, Philippines — A police officer from the Pandacan station of the Manila Police District (MPD) has been tested positive for the use of shabu or crystal meth.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory director Brig. Gen. Steve Ludan identified the police officer as Master Sergeant Leonardo Mariano Jr., who tested positive for shabu use in a random drug test conducted for participants of the Finance Course for Police Non-Commissioned Officers on December 10.

“Police Master Sergeant Leonardo Mariano Jr. yielded positive for the presence of methamphetamine or more commonly known as shabu,” Ludan said in a press briefing on Monday.

“His result was confirmed during the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry here at the National Headquarters Crime Laboratory,” he added.

Ludan said the conduct of the random drug test is in compliance with the directive of PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas to weed out drug users in the uniformed service.

“The PNP Crime Laboratory has been continuously conducting random drug tests over PNP personnel. Hindi lang po dito sa NHQ [National Headquarters] kundi sa lahat po ito [It’s not only for personnel in the National Headquarters but for everyone],” said Ludan. Zac Sarao, INQUIRER.net trainee
