Cop arrested for gunrunning in buy bust

A police sergeant, tagged by his colleagues as the leader of a gunrunning gang, was arrested along with a companion in a buy-bust operation on Saturday night in Parañaque City. Police Gen. Debold Sinas, Philippine National Police chief, identified on Sunday the police sergeant as Reynolfo Ursulum, 50, assigned with the Central Visayas police regional personnel holding and accounting unit. Also nabbed was his housemate Carvyn Parcon, 21, of Taguig City. Sinas identified Ursulum as the alleged leader of a gunrunning syndicate operating in Metro Manila. Operatives posed as buyers of four Bushmaster M4A1 assault rifles worth P500,000 at around 10 p.m. on Saturday in front of a restaurant along Doña Soledad Avenue in Parañaque City. As soon as the deal was completed, undercover police agents announced the bust and arrested Ursulum and Parcon. —Jeanette I. Andrade
