NLEX meeting no guarantee that permit suspension will be lifted – Gatchalian

Gatchalian halts NLEX Corp. operation in Valenzuela City amid 'RFID mess'

Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian (right) personally served the Executive Order he signed suspending NLEX Corp.’s operation to the company’s offices in Valenzuela earlier this month.

MANILA, Philippines — The meeting between top officials of the North Luzon Expressway Corp. (NLEX) officials and Valenzuela City  on the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system issues is not. guarantee that the toll operators’ suspended business permit will be lifted, Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian said Sunday.

“Hindi porke’t mag-mi-meet kami, ma-li-lift ang suspension ah? Let me just be very clear with that,” said Gatchalian in an interview on dzBB.

(Just because we will meet, doesn’t mean we will lift the suspension of NLEX’s business permit.)

Gatchalian said he is set to meet with NLEX officials to discuss the issues on the problems on  the RFID s system which is causing traffic build up in the city’s toll plazas.

Gatchalian said the city government will present “constructive solutions” to help NLEX address the traffic congestion due to the cashless toll collection scheme.

Gatchalian suspended NLEX’s business permit last December 7 amid the RFID and traffic mess. Hence, NLEX was prevented from collecting toll from motorists passing through toll plazas in Valenzuela City.
