Pre-school children from 12 barangays of Cebu province will have newly built classrooms this school year.
These barangays are Guadalupe, Guba, Bonbon and Mabolo in Cebu City; Opao in Mandaue City; Agus in Lapu-Lapu City; Gabi in Cordova; San Isidro in Talisay City; Cepoc in Naga City; Tayud in Liloan; Abucayan in Balamban and Bancasan in San Remigio.
The school buildings are part of the 45 structures that will be built across the country in the next two years for the school reforms being implemented by the Department of Education (DepEd).
The project is a collaboration between the Aklat, Gabay, Aruga tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa (AGAPP) Foundation, Aboitiz Foundation Inc. and the DepEd.
The partnership signed an agreement last May 26 at the DepEd Complex in Pasig City by Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro, AGAPP chairperson Pinky Aquino-Abellada and Aboitiz Foundation president Jon Ramon Aboitiz.
Aboitiz Foundation will give funds for the construction.
For 2011, 26 school buildings will be constructed and are expected to be completed by June 13.
The remaining 19 structures will be constructed on 2012.
AGAPP will provide instructional materials and training for teachers.
The school building construction is modeled after AGAPP’s “Silid Pangarap” project, which involves building one-story, two-room facilities. One room is for holding classes while the other used as a school library.
