DOH records 1,383 new COVID-19 cases; Active cases back at 27K-mark

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 1,383 new coronavirus infections as of Thursday, bringing the number of active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases past the 27,000 mark again.

According to the DOH’s COVID-19 bulletin, the 27,781 active cases represent 6.2 percent of all the cases recorded in the country, which is now at 445,540.  Meanwhile, another 133 patients have recovered from the disease, bringing the total recovery count to 409,058 or 91.8 percent of the total cases.

The DOH however also recorded 24 more deaths due to COVID-19, resulting in a new death toll of 8,701.

Most of the active cases or 85.5 percent experience mild symptoms, 6.7 percent are asymptomatic, while 2.5 percent show severe symptoms.

Another 5.0 percent of the COVID-19 patients are currently in critical condition.

The majority of the new cases are from Quezon City with 83, followed by Laguna at 75, Manila with 68, Bulacan with 65, and Davao City with 61.

Of the positive cases noted on Thursday, 1,151 are from the 20,062 who were tested for the coronavirus on Wednesday.

The DOH said that seven duplicate entries were removed from the total case count, which included six double inputs in the recovered category.  In addition, 11 cases that were previously labeled as recoveries were reclassified as deaths.
