10 Quezon towns now COVID-19-free

LUCENA CITY –– Ten of the 41 municipalities in Quezon province no longer have any recorded coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported on Thursday, Dec. 10.

The areas now considered COVID-19-free are the island towns of Jomalig, Burdeos, Panukulan, and Alabat; and the mainland towns of San Andres, Pitogo, Macalelon, Padre Burgos, Agdangan, and San Francisco, according to the IPHO in its 10 a.m. report on Thursday.

Those previously infected in these municipalities have either recovered or died, the report said.

On Oct. 19, all Quezon municipalities have COVID-19 patients after the coastal town of San Andres, which had managed to remain virus-free since the pandemic erupted in early March, recorded its first confirmed case. The patient has since recovered.

The IPHO reported that as of Thursday, the death toll from COVID-19 in Quezon rose to 170 after two patients from Unisan town and Lucena City, respectively, died on Wednesday.

Quezon, which is under a modified general community quarantine status, logged a total of 5,708 COVID-19 cases, with 634 remaining active virus carriers.
