MANILA, Philippines — Some 1,087 pre-kindergarten students in Makati City received learner’s packages to assist them in distance learning amid the pandemic, the local government said Tuesday.
Each kit contains learning materials such as an alphabet puzzle set, alphabet and number flashcards, a wooden magnetic drawing board, an abacus, building blocks, and crayons, among others.
The Makati City government also distributed along with it a hygiene pack with soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, and face towel.
“Our commitment to quality education encompasses preschool-aged Makatizens, given that they are at the crucial stage when they start to develop cognitive skills,” Makati Mayor Abby Binay said in a statement.
“Together with SDO-Makati [Schools Division Office of Makati], we have put together a learner’s package that contains tools that will stimulate their creativity and imagination, and help them learn new things and activities,” she added.
Binay also urged parents of pre-kindergarten students to be actively involved in their children’s early education.
“We hope that parents of these 1,087 youngsters enrolled in our pre-K program will devote enough time and attention to engage them in daily learning exercises using the tools we have provided. Making it a part of their daily routine will go a long way in preparing them for formal education,” Binay said.
Parents and guardians have until Dec. 11 to claim their child’s learner’s packages from the barangay by simply bringing a valid ID.
In case they are not available to claim the package, they can authorize anyone to claim it as long as they present an authorization letter, photocopy of the valid ID of the parent or guardian, and a photocopy of the claimant’s valid ID. Miggy Dumlao, Trainee
