QC court junks case vs ex-Piston president
MANILA, Philippines — A Quezon City court on Monday dismissed a criminal case filed against the former national president of a militant transport group for violating the Public Service Act after leading a nationwide transport strike in February 2017 to protest the jeepeney modernization program.
In a statement, Piston president emeritus George San Mateo thanked the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 43 for its “fair and just decision,” saying it was a victory for the rights of jeepney drivers and operators.
In September 2017, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board filed a complaint against San Mateo for withholding public services from the people.
