Another fatality pushes COVID-19 death toll in Eastern Visayas to 96

TACLOBAN CITY Another patient from Eastern Visayas died of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), bringing the death toll in the region to 96.

According to the regional office of the Department of Health (DOH), the latest fatality involved a 31-year-old woman from San Sebastian town in Samar province.

The woman died last December 6.

San Sebastian Mayor Eleuterio Mabag issued Monday a memorandum to temporarily close their municipal building after one of the employees tested positive for COVID-19, a respiratory ailment caused by SARS-CoV-2.

Mabag said the closure of the entire municipal building remains until the results of all swab tests taken from the direct contacts of the patient are released.

The town has 19 new coronavirus disease cases since March.

In Northern Samar, Gov. Edwin Marino Ongchuan has issued an order that prohibits Christmas gatherings or parties in all government offices.

As of Monday, Eastern Visayas has 9,016 COVID-19 cases.
