OLONGAPO CITY — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Central Luzon said it passed the first stage of an external audit by an independent certification body as it adopted “Quality Management System (QMS)” to simplify its procedures and unburden taxpayers.

In a statement, BIR regional director Edgar Tolentino on Sunday said the agency’s revenue region 4 (RR4) continued to upgrade its systems, the latest of which is the QMS being applied in its eight revenue districts.

These districts include Paniqui in Tarlac, Olongapo City, Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Balanga City in Bataan, North Pampanga, South Pampanga, and Clark Freeport Zone.

“This is an affirmation that BIR RR4 continues to upgrade its processes to provide quality service for our taxpayers,” Tolentino said.

Tuv Rheinland Philippines, Inc. had given the RR4 the passing rate for the Stage 1 of the external audit. Stage 2 will be conducted in all of the revenue district and support offices this month.

The RR4 is aiming to get the International Organization Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 QMS certification to promote “standardized and systematic approach” to BIR’s business registration process, Tolentino said. Joanna Rose Aglibot
