MANILA, Philippines — Maria Ressa, chief executive officer of the news portal Rappler, has asked the Makati Regional Trial Court to junk the second cyberlibel complaint against her by businessman Wilfredo Keng over a screenshot Ressa posted on Twitter.
Prosecutors found probable cause to charge Ressa for a second cyberlibel case on Nov. 10 and filed the case in court on Nov. 23. The motion to quash will be heard on Dec. 11 at 10 am.
The first cyberlibel complaint was filed before a Manila court by Keng in 2017. Ressa is currently facing seven cases and has been prohibited from leaving the country without permission while on bail. —JODEE A. AGONCILLO
