MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a revetment structure along the Iraan River in Rizal, Palawan aimed at preventing overflow and flooding in the area, Secretary Mark Villar said Friday.
“This river structure will block the overflow of the Iraan River during rainy and typhoon season, protecting residential and agricultural land in the area,” said Villar in a statement on Friday.
Villar said the project is among the major flood-control projects implemented by the DPWH amounting to P552.37 million and now serves residents of Barangay Iraan in Rizal town.
“Aside from the completed [project] in Barangay Iraan, we are building more of these concrete structures along [with] identified flood-prone riversides of southern Palawan,” Villar added.
Along with the one-kilometer Iraan River project, DPWH Palawan also completed the 2.73-kilometer Tigaplan River flood-control structure in Brook’s Point last month.
Other ongoing constructions are the 12-kilometer Malatgao River Flood Control Structure in Malatgao Narra, the 2.78-kilometer Batang-Batang River Flood Control Structure in Narra, and the 740-meter Malambunga River Flood Control Structure in Rizal, Palawan that will be completed early 2021. [ac]
