MANILA, Philippines — Despite recent flooding in parts of Quezon City, the local government said that it has seen an 83-percent drop of leptospirosis cases this year. Data from the city health department showed that 58 leptospirosis cases, with three deaths, were recorded in the city from Jan. 1 to Nov. 21.
This figure is significantly lower to the 345 reported cases in the same period last year.
City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit chief Rolando Cruz attributed the decline to the prophylactic treatment given to responders and residents.
