Power utility worker in Eastern Samar dead after cobra bite

TACLOBAN CITY—An employee of a power utility in Eastern Samar province died after he was bitten by a snake while he and co-workers were conducting clearing operations last Wednesday (Dec. 2).

Sonny “Boy” Valdemoro, 23, employee of Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative (Esamelco) and resident of Bagti village in Quinapondan town, was at the village of San Miguel in Balangiga town for the clearing operation around 1 p.m. when he was bitten by a cobra on the right arm.

His co-workers tried in vain to save Valdemoro, a member of the clearing crew of Esamelco that serves the entire province of Eastern Samar.

In Albay province, a lineman of the Leyte II Electric Cooperative (Leyeco II), based in Tacloban City died of stomach bleeding last Tuesday (Dec. 1).
