MANILA, Philippines — An official of Megaworld Corporation was the seventh witness presented by the prosecution team in the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona.
Giovanni Ng, finance director of Megaworld, took the witness stand on Monday.
Ng will be examined by private prosecutor Joseph Perez.
This is after the Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, allowed “in the spirit of liberality” a new order of presentation of evidence by the prosecution team.
“In the spirit of liberality, the chair will allow the (new) sequence of presentation of evidence of the prosecution,” said Senate Juan Ponce-Enrile, who is presiding over the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona.
The new order of presentation would be Articles 2, 3, 7, 1, 8, 4, 5 and 6. The request for this new sequence was contained in a manifestation filed by the prosecution team before the Office of the Senate Secretary.
The manifestation was formally presented at the resumption of the trial on Monday. The previous order of presentation by the prosecution team was Articles 2, 1 and 7.
The prosecution is still presenting evidence under Article 2 of the impeachment complaint pertaining to Corona’s alleged failure to disclose his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth.
