101-year-old man from Samar tests positive for COVID-19

TACLOBAN CITY –– A 101-year-old man from San Jorge town in Samar province tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The patient, the oldest COVID-19 patient in Eastern Visayas, reportedly got the infection from his granddaughter, who worked as a nurse, said an employee of the town’s rural health unit, who requested not to be named.

“He is now at the Gandara District Hospital, and he appears to be asymptomatic,” he said.

The San Jorge RHU has been closed for disinfection.

Aside from the 101-year-old man, six other members of his family also contracted the virus.

San Jorge currently has 71 COVID-19 cases with 39 recoveries.

The Department of Health said Eastern Visayas has 8,783 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
