MANILA, Philippines — An alleged member of the Abu Sayyaf group was killed following a shootout with members of the Philippine National Police-Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) in Sibuco, Zamboanga Del Norte.
According to PNP-AKG director Brig. Gen. Jonel Estomo’s report to PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas, the suspect, identified as Jupuri Dais alias Jupuri Nabua was gunned down at 2 a.m. Wednesday in Brgy. Poblacion, Sibuco, Zamboanga Del Norte.
Police said Dais, believed to have been involved in numerous kidnapping activities since 2016, fired his .45 caliber pistol at the arresting team sent to serve his warrant of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention cases.
The suspect was a former member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) before becoming a member of the Abu Sayyaf under Almujir Yadah, Estomo said.
Dais was being sought by AKG for his alleged involvement in a series of kidnapping incidents in Mindanao particularly the kidnappings of Martina Yee in 2016, Duterte couple in 2017, Ruda couple and Javier family in 2018.
The police operation thwarted another kidnapping activity as the suspect was supposedly out in the area of Sibuco to abduct a certain Zamboanga-based project engineer and contractor, Estomo ended. Miggy Dumalo, INQUIRER.net trainee
