MANILA, Philippines — Three police generals have tested positive for coronavirus disease, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas said Monday.
They are Brig. Gen. Ronnie Ylagan, the outgoing director of the Northern Police District; Brig. Gen. Rommil Mitra, chief of the Firearms and Explosives Office; and, Brig. Gen. Joey Runes from the Office of the Chief PNP.
“Nagkalabasan ‘yan noong nagcommand conference kami. Kaya di sila nakaattend ng conference kasi nga mga positive sila,” Sinas said in a press briefing.
(We knew about it during the command conference. They were not able to attend the conference because they tested positive to COVID-19.)
Sinas said the PNP will also implement a “targeted group swab” test for its personnel in Camp Crame for early detection of COVID-19 in the main police camp.
As of 6 p.m. Sunday, the PNP Health Service has recorded 8,103 COVID-19 cases, with 370 active cases, 7,707 recoveries, and 26 deaths. — Zac Sarao, trainee
