Corona team slams prosecution’s move to summon SC justices
MANILA, Philippines – The defense panel on Monday expressed concern over the prosecution team’s move to summon justices of the Supreme Court to testify against Chief Justice Renato Corona.
Defense lawyer and spokesperson Karen Jimeno said that such a plan of the prosecution would violate the time-honored confidentiality of the Court in the disposition of cases.
“The best proof is still the decision itself and that is why there are dissenting and concurring portions of any decision,” Jimeno said in a statement.
On Friday, the prosecution team submitted to the Senate sitting as an impeachment court a list of witnesses who would be summoned to testify against Corona.
Included in the list are Supreme Court Associate Justices Maria Lourdes Sereno and Presbitero Velasco.
