PNP honors cop who was killed in Iloilo drug bust

ILOILO CITY—The Philippine National Police in Western Visayas paid tribute to a police officer who was shot dead during a drug buy-bust on Saturday.

In a statement, the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO-6) also condoled with the family of Cpl. Felfranz Lumahang.

“Corporal Lumahang, who dedicated his life to serving the Ilonggos, will never be forgotten. The men and women of PRO-6 will forever be grateful for the courage he showed and for his devotion to police service,” according to a PRO-6 statement on Sunday.

An unidentified gunman shot Lumahang at around 3:20 p.m. on Saturday at Barangay Abilay Sur in Oton town in Iloilo.

Lumahang, 32, was reportedly conducting an operation, posing as a buyer of illegal drugs when he was gunned down.

Col. Gilbert Gorero, Iloilo provincial police director, said Lumahang was in his seventh year of service in the police force.

The regional police office has directed the Iloilo Provincial Police Office to intensify the investigation on the incident and determine the identities of those involved in the killing of the policeman and file the appropriate charges against them.

It added that it will also assist in the processing of government claims and assistance for the family of Lumahang.
