Quezon COVID-19 watch: 5,243 total cases, death toll jumps to 155

LUCENA CITY – The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) death toll in Quezon province jumped to 155, after four more fatalities were recorded as of Wednesday, authorities reported Saturday.

In its 10 a.m. bulletin, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) disclosed that the latest fatalities are from the towns of General Luna and Candelaria.

On Thursday, a COVID-19 patient also died in the town of Pagbilao and another validated virus carrier passed away on Wednesday in the municipality of Mulanay.

Quezon, which remains under modified general community quarantine, has recorded 5,243 COVID-19 cases with the addition of 34 new confirmed virus carriers on Saturday.

A total of 4,282 patients, so far, have recovered. The province still has 806 active virus carriers.

The IPHO records show that from Nov. 1 to 28, a total of 47 COVID-19 patients died. Another 42 of the total fatalities in the province were also recorded during the month of October.

Lucena City, the capital of the province, had the most number of fatalities with 42.

Local health authorities are closely monitoring 302 suspected virus carriers, who are in medical and isolation facilities. At least 280 others are on home quarantine.

As of Saturday, the town of Pitogo and the island towns of Jomalig, Burdeos and Panukulan are considered COVID-19-free after those previously infected either made a full recovery or perished.
