GUIGUINTO, Bulacan–Two Chinese nationals were arrested while refurbishing used personal computers and other gadgets worth P100 million in a warehouse in this town on Thursday (Nov. 26).
Lawyer Christian Natividad, Optical Media Board (OMB) chair, withheld the Chinese’s names pending filing of charges for counterfeiting and violation of intellectual property.
The suspects were inside Ecom Electronics Reconditioning Services when the OMB raided their compound.
Natividad said a certain Jocelyn Drueco Casimiro, who was believed to be a dummy of the two Chinese, suddenly submitted to his office an online application for license while the raid was ongoing around 5 p.m.
Seized were several personal computers, computer monitors TV with storage devices from Korea. The items were for distribution in Guiguinto town and Metro Manila, and had no license from the OMB.
Republic Act 9239 authorized the OMB to check equipment or gadgets that could reproduce or copy optical media as part of OMB’s mission to stop counterfeiting.
